Information Callouts are powerful tools designed to immediately highlight important updates or new features to your users without requiring any action on their part. While they are incredibly effective, it's essential to use them sparingly — overusing these Callouts can distract and overwhelm users, ultimately reducing their effectiveness.
To effectively manage Information Callouts and avoid overwhelming users with constantly blinking Hotspots, GRAVITY provides a streamlined approach using Goals. As an Author, you have the flexibility to keep essential content visible without continuously displaying an active Hotspot.
You can achieve this by:
Convert an Information Callout to a Single Callout manually to retain visibility without the distraction of blinking Hotspots (Figure 1.)
Use Goals within GRAVITY to automatically transition Information Callouts into Single Callouts based on user interaction or task completion.
Start by creating a Goal in which you want to place your Information Callout and Single Callout and ensure that in Step 2 of Goal creation process (Goal settings) Appearance is set to One by one (Figure 2.).
Once your Goal is ready, you can go ahead and create your two Callouts and place them in your newly created Goal.
To make sure that your content is displayed in the correct order, navigate back to the Goal management, find the goal you have just created and open the Goal creation menu. In Step 3, you can double-check the order of the Callouts and reorder them if need be (Figure 3.). It is important to ensure that your Information Callout is followed by the Single Callout.
While Information Callouts are an effective way to highlight important updates or new features, relying solely on them to communicate with users can lead to diminishing returns. Overuse can quickly turn helpful guidance into visual noise, making it harder for users to stay focused and engaged. That's why it's important to balance their use to create a more nuanced, user-driven experience. By using Information Callouts strategically - and pairing them with Single Callouts - you can deliver important messages at the right time, and ensure they remain accessible afterwards, without creating unnecessary distractions.
